Big Things Boxing Academy 501(c)(3) nonprofit
Falls Church, Virginia

OUR MISSION

To provide kids a safe, after-school space where they can learn a new sport, stay active, and feel empowered. Through boxing we promote good physical and mental health, teach kids self-defense, and help instill discipline. All to help them go and do big things in boxing and in life.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

  • Seven Corners, Falls Church, VA

    Falls Church, VA

Most of our students live in Seven Corners or Culmore. Both areas consist mainly of shopping centers and apartment complexes. Change has been slow in reaching these neighborhoods.

  • Willston Multicultural Center Building

    Willston Multicultural Center

This is where we currently hold our classes. The center does not have a gymnasium, basketball court, or a fitness room like other centers in the county. It’s in need of more programs and resources for teens.

  • Cop Car

    Dangers & Risks

This area is congested with cars, roads, and shopping centers. Making it dangerous for outside play. Rise in crime here puts kids at risk of drugs and violence. We offer kids a safe place to go when school is out.

OUR GOALS

  • Star Icon

    Mentor

Talk to parents and hopefully see positive changes in their child as a result of our program. Improved fitness, better behavior, and more focused.

  • Crown Icon

    Empower

See an improvement in how a kid carries his or herself. Happier, more confident, self-assured, disciplined, and with a stronger work ethic.

  • Heart Icon

    Nurture

Show kids the benefits of living healthy. Help them embrace a healthy lifestyle which they can bring home and share with their family.

  • Globe Icon

    Unite

Create a program that becomes a staple in our community. A community kids feel proud to fight for and represent. Big things don’t happen alone.

OUR TEAM

Coach Freddy

Coach Freddy

Founder and Head Coach

“I started Big Things Boxing as a way of putting more good out into the world. I was a teenager when I first picked up a pair of boxing gloves. I can’t image how different I would be without this sport. Boxing helped give me strength and let me find comfort in being myself. Sometimes I wish I had started my boxing journey a few years younger. Who knows how that would have shaped my future. I didn’t have the opportunity to play a sport as a kid because it was always out of reach for me. I see those same challenges facing our students. My goal is to be the coach I needed when I was their age.”

“Big Things Boxing has truly been a rewarding experience for me. Knowing that we’re helping kids become stronger, healthier, and more confident is worth all the time and effort we put in day after day. I love seeing our kids engaged and enjoying the sport. It’s a fun experience not only for them but for me as well, as spending time with the kids always makes my day. I’m happy to be making a positive difference in our student’s lives.”

Assistant Coach

“Coach Freddy and I are brothers. We grew up watching boxing with our dad but only Coach Freddy picked up the sport. I never saw myself as a boxer but all that changed when Coach Freddy started Big Things Boxing and I started volunteering with him. As a full-time educator with 15 plus years of elementary school experience, I see so much positivity and good in this program. Plus, I understand the importance of establishing and maintaining a presence in a community that has repeatedly felt neglected. Now I train right along with our students as a reminder that it’s never too late to learn how to box!”
